The south.
The coast.
The wild.

For travellers who enjoy driving and want a guide to bring the route and experiences together.

Lodges and selected stays anchor the route, with time for local stories, the landscape and wildlife. Hiking, cycling, photography and hosted cultural experiences can be shaped into the final programme where access and local agreements allow.

Your route, already considered

Windhoek → Nauams → Aus → Lüderitz & Sperrgebiet → the Namib → Swakopmund → Mowani → Etosha → Timbila → Windhoek

This is a new WHYNAMIBIA journey concept. Namibia Active Adventures is the proposed operator; its acceptance, final itinerary, named stays and availability are still to be confirmed. Jens currently handles expressions of interest.

Up to four guests in one rented Land Cruiser, with a guide in a separate lead vehicle. Vehicle configuration, luggage, driving eligibility and rental conditions must be confirmed before booking.

The south and the safari country.

A proposed route linking Nauams, Aus and Lüderitz with Swakopmund, Mowani, Etosha and Timbila.

Time at the places that matter.

The 17-night plan gives Etosha three nights and Nauams, Lüderitz, Swakopmund, Mowani and Timbila two each.

Your own wheel. A guide ahead.

Two or four guests share a guest Land Cruiser, with a guide in a separate lead vehicle. Final seating and luggage capacity must be confirmed.

The proposed itinerary

18 days.
A country unfolding.

A Namib overnight breaks the road from Lüderitz to Swakopmund. A final Windhoek night keeps the flight day separate from the last safari transfer.

Day 1 · 1 night

Windhoek

Arrive, settle in and meet your guide. A first night in Windhoek gives the journey a calm beginning before the road south.

Days 2–3 · 2 nights

Nauams

Two nights in the highlands. The proposed stay leaves time for Nauams’ walking and cycling trails, quiet evenings and a gentle transition into the landscape.

Day 4 · 1 night

Aus

Head south into the granite hills around Aus. This overnight stop opens the southern chapter before the Atlantic coast.

Days 5–6 · 2 nights

Lüderitz & the Sperrgebiet

Stay in Lüderitz, with a day reserved for an authorised Sperrgebiet excursion. The intended visit could include Pomona and Bogenfels if permits, the concession operator and conditions allow. Restricted-area access is not confirmed.

Day 7 · 1 night

The Namib

Return inland via Aus and continue north to a Namib-area overnight stop. This deliberately breaks the journey to Swakopmund; the specific lodge and road routing will be confirmed by the operator.

Days 8–9 · 2 nights

Swakopmund

Two nights on the Atlantic coast. Time for the town, the ocean and a selected coastal activity, with the final programme agreed around your interests.

Days 10–11 · 2 nights

Mowani & Damaraland

Mowani Mountain Camp is the proposed two-night base. Allow time for the granite landscape and a locally hosted cultural or nature experience, subject to host consent, access and availability.

Days 12–14 · 3 nights

Etosha

Three nights give the wildlife chapter room to unfold. The final camp sequence and park activities will be chosen for the season and confirmed access. Wildlife sightings remain a matter of nature.

Days 15–16 · 2 nights

Timbila

Timbila Safari Lodge is the proposed final safari stay. Two nights for the reserve, its landscape and locally led experiences before returning to the city.

Day 17 · 1 night

Windhoek

Return to Windhoek for the final night. Time to reflect, repack and close the journey without combining the last safari transfer with an international departure.

Day 18

Departure

Airport transfer and departure from Windhoek. Flight schedules will shape the final arrangements.

Proposed sequence, not confirmed reservations. The operator must verify each driving leg, permissions and seasonal suitability. Restricted Sperrgebiet excursions use an authorised operator; the rental vehicle is not assumed to have independent access.

One guest Land Cruiser for four, plus a separate guide and lead vehicle.

Request for 4 Guests

The guide and lead vehicle are shared by your group, which makes the four-guest option more economical. The two-guest version carries that support cost between two people. These are editorial budget estimates, not supplier quotes or confirmed offers. Season, room category, vehicle specifications and access arrangements may change the final price. The operator will confirm applicable taxes and the total before you commit.

Budget assumptions

Outside this estimate

  • International flights, visas and personal travel insurance.
  • VAT, personal spending, gratuities and meals or drinks outside the agreed programme.
  • Optional flights, specialist filming, equipment hire and additional activities.
  • Single rooms, upgrades and rental deposits, insurance excesses or damage costs.
How the budget was set
